The customer was in the process of a large acquisition and needed the appropriate licensing agreement for incorporating their existing Oracle environment with its new one. The impact the acquisition would have on current agreements and upcoming renewals was unclear, providing another reason for contacting XORISK.
The process began with on-site interviews to understand the usage and complexity of the hardware infrastructure, software and usage. The existing licensing model and agreements gave insight into next steps for compliance and cost-optimization. After understanding their current situation and customer expectations, XORISK began to work with Oracle DBAs to figure out how to best utilize current and new environments efficiently for both hardware and software.
Shortly after undergoing the project, XORISK realized that a full performance analysis would be most beneficial in order to achieve the goals of minimizing licensing exposure, reducing renewals quotes, and enabling better business practices. The performance analysis consisted of a hardware vs. software cost comparison. The result was being able to reduce software needs by over $3 Million by purchasing new hardware.
