CHALLENGE

Client is large known payment processor with predominantly data centers and server in its IT Estate. Being in BFSI segment, client roped in XORISK to satisfy its internal SAM Compliance requirements. The challenge at hand was to gain visibility on software spending and spread of cost to plan future budgets.

SOLUTION

Being a payment processor, clients IT Estate was largely of servers and data center. It was a sensitive environment where a fraction of minute was not acceptable was downtime. XORISK team created lite-weight scripts that were tested in a controlled environment. Post this along with client’s internal IT Team, XORISK Consultants scanned the entire network for IBM software in use. All purchases were analyzed while data analysis was being done.

OUTCOME

XORISK’s analysis revealed that client’s projectized IT environment had its impact on software. Projects were purchasing software in isolation without knowing the organization level license availability and purchases made. Our reports revealed that client was heavily invested on stacks of IBM Products that were not even 50% in use while there were other stacks which were being used extensively but purchases were only 60% of PVUs. XORISK assisted client in identifying which licenses could be re-used, make hardware changes based on CPU resource utilization data. This amounted in bringing down the license requirement. Opportunities for trade-off were also used. Lastly a procurement was done of required number of PVU licenses however a process was implemented to ensure that prior to any new procurement, org level license utilization had to be assessed. Client also hired a dedicated SAM Manager based on XORISK’s recommendations.
